Our Story

Welcome to the Cressy House. Our house is a 150 year old private residence that has been home for the proprietors for over 25 years. It is situated in Old Mandeville which is a neighborhood that was established by Bernard deMarigny in 1834. Marigny also developed Faubourg Marigny which is one of the first "suburbs" of New Orleans immediately adjacent to the French Quarter in 1806. Our house was originally a small bungalow on piers that was a "summer home" for people eager to escape the heat of New Orleans. Mandeville was a popular resort in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and was reached from New Orleans by paddle boat or schooner. The boats would dock on long piers and the happy vacationers would stay in Mandeville or board trains bound for Abita Springs and other popular summer retreats.

Today the house is much larger and has been raised 16 feet to protect it from rising lake water during storm events. There is an additional wing of the house that is occupied by Rudy and Emma Sutis who are Laura Cressy's parents. Rudy and Emma will welcome you to C'est Chez Nous and provide you with information about our facility and the places to see in Mandeville.

Our continental breakfast includes coffee, pastries, juices and fresh fruit. We are about two hundred feet from Lake Pontchartrain where there is a two mile walking and biking path along the park like shore of the lake. More serious joggers and bikers can use the St. Tamanny Trace which is a scenic 31 mile pedestrian, bicyclist, equestrian rail-to-trail conversion which is 3/5ths of a mile from the house.

What People are saying!

We were so blessed to have found this place. We stayed 2 nights and loved it!! The house itself is neat. We stayed upstairs and there was a very nice porch to sit out on and listen to the waves on Lake Pontchartrain. It was very clean (important to us). The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom is very big with a jacuzzi tub that felt great after a 32 mile ride on the Tammany Trace. ( a Rails to Trails Hall of Fame trail). An extra plus is the ability to ride your bike to the trail!!

There are several restaurants nearby to walk to for lunch or dinner. You do have a mini frig and microwave in your room along with several snacks provided.

It is a very generous continental breakfast with all we needed to get us started for the day!!

If you are fortunate to get booked there you will have a most wonderful stay!!
